The Benin City Entertainment Story: Independent Record Label at the Intersection of Music, Technology, and Culture
An introduction to Benin City Entertainment: who we are, where we come from, how we work with artists, and the Music x Technology = BC² philosophy that defines everything we do.

Benin City Entertainment is an independent record label and creative studio built around a simple idea: artists should own their careers, labels should serve the vision, and technology should amplify both. From our name to our roster to our partnerships, every decision we make traces back to that first principle.
Where the Name Comes From
Benin City is a 1.5 million person city in Edo State, Nigeria, home to one of the oldest and most sophisticated kingdoms in African history. The Benin Bronzes, the royal city walls, the metallurgy traditions that pre-date most European equivalents by centuries, these are part of a cultural inheritance that still informs how music is made across the continent and the diaspora today.
We took the name as a declaration. We are an African music company, rooted in the specific heritage of Edo State, operating globally. The city on our label is a reminder: the standards we work to are standards that existed long before the modern music industry did.
What We Actually Do
Benin City Entertainment is a full-service independent record label. We sign artists, develop their careers from first release to headline tour, release records through our own infrastructure and through partnerships like our recent alignment with Capitol Music, and run an in-house creative studio that handles music video production, graphic and content design, fashion and styling, and release strategy under one roof.
Our roster is intentionally small. Rebel Rae in Washington DC, Bella Alubo in Lagos, Binta between London and Gambia, Tniyah in New Jersey, Osa Zele with roots in Edo State. Five artists we build with full-time, across R&B, Afropop, soul, and the spaces between them. We would rather give a small roster everything than a large roster not enough.
The Music x Technology = BC² Philosophy
The label equation on our homepage, Music x Technology = BC², is more than a tagline. It is how we work. The music industry runs on technology that most artists never see, and most labels never explain. Royalty accounting, release metadata, catalog tagging, platform relationships, data pipelines that determine whether a song gets playlisted or buried. We built our studio and our back-office with the belief that artists deserve full visibility into every one of those systems.
In practice, that means we treat tech as creative infrastructure. The videos we shoot, the way we deliver masters, the dashboards our artists use to see their own streams in real time, the way we schedule rollouts around platform editorial windows. Every piece is designed to put the artist in the driver's seat with the data they need.
Who We Work With
Beyond our signed roster, we take on a small slate of outside projects each year with artists, labels, and brand partners who want our studio for a specific record or campaign. We have produced work with Nike, Pepsi, Timberland, Airbnb, and partnered with Capitol Music on multi-year roster releases. If you are a label looking for a creative partner for a release cycle, we are open to those conversations. If you are an artist looking for a home for your next record, we are open to those too.
